Hey, Teralian. Was the ending surprising? His movies always seem to have a really cool twist at the end.
Schlindler's List: 10/10 Heartbreaking, appalling and inspiring. Interesting that they filmed it in black and white. Not much else to say.
To Hell and Back: 8/10 Audie Murphy playing himself. How cool is that? (Though I wonder how he felt about it.)This movie was actually a lot better than some of the war movies made a decade or two later. Since it was an older movie though, some of the acting was a little off. Mostly just the way some of the guys said the dialog. It's hard to explain, but sometimes their tone of voice just sounded unnatural. If you've seen the clips of the 85' version of BtT on youtube you'd know what I mean. The movie seemed to focus on individual soldiers more than just the war, which was nice, and all the special affects were pretty realistic, except that explosion with the tank at the end. I'd recommend seeing it.
Zathura: 8/10 Great acting and special effects, with a pretty cool story. Nice lesson too. I enjoyed it, though it's not something I'd want to watch more than once.
madtom wrote:ARRRGH! How can you even mention To Hell and Back and the '85 version of BtT in the same paragraph? Granted, the dialogue of To Hell and Back would seem stiff by today's standards, but that film was made a year before I was born, and I'm the Old Man of this forum; compare it instead to some other movies of the '50s. But don't even compare it to BtT-85. As I said in my review in the old forum, the dialogue from BtT-85 sounded like the dialogue from a Charlie Brown TV special with Canadian accents. (Oh, and Audie Murphy resisted making To Hell and Back for nearly ten years and then wanted someone younger to play him. Universal Studios practically blackmailed him with threats to never let him work for them again if he didn't agree to playing himself.)
